How I’ve Learnt to Ride the Wave. Pt. 2 ACCEPT WHAT IS!
As mentioned in my last note, this week I will start addressing in a bit more detail the first step of the system I use to ride the emotional wave and keep a clearer, higher perspective on life (for the most part). ACCEPTING WHAT IS.
Accepting What Is has been written, spoken about and practiced by many for thousands of years. At our core, we know this, yet speaking for myself, I’ve certainly had my share of resisting “What Is” in the moment, creating self-pity, fear, anger and blame as a result. Those days, weeks or months when life seemed too hard and I decided to be a victim. You may relate to this.
Through pushing myself to challenge what I thought I knew, the resistance has considerably reduced as I have discovered for myself what is TRUTH to me. As I have expanded and grown, an inner sense of ease has emerged within, which I can radiate out. Even when things aren’t as I (my ego) desire, I can remain more balanced and calm. As a result, I feel more empowered and alive.
To be clear, when I say “Accept What Is”, I do not mean you have to agree with it, you do not need to like it. Just find a place within to Accept It, for in the moment, it is.
So to ACCEPT WHAT IS. Sounds simple enough right?? Or course it is, yet somehow over time we have managed to make it so complicated and painful.
You will probably find you are able to accept what is easily when things are going well for you, you don’t even think about it. You are enjoying your high flying vibe where the world is a wonderful place.
Then life throws a curve ball your way and things are not going as you want them to. People are not doing as you want them to, things are not happening in your preferred time frame. What happens to you?? Take a moment to recall this. How is it making you feel? Not so great I assume. I’m reflecting on my old self here. I was not always a happy camper to be around.
When things don’t go how you would like your emotions change; anger, impatience, frustration and doubt can kick in, like an auto pilot response. Your body may respond by feeling ill, where body aches and pains arise or something more serious. Suddenly life can look pretty bleak. Many people, my old self included, switched between blaming someone or something else to blaming myself, hence belittling thoughts and actions kicked in. Have you experienced this? Not a fun time and very dis-empowering! It’s nicer when things go your way and everyone does what you want, when you want it right.
However, we are not able to control everything. We cannot control the will of others, we cannot control our external environment, what we can do is control our internal environment, our private temple and through this, we can create change to influence our outer experience. The power starts with you. You must take responsibility for how you choose to feel and respond. Yes I can hear you say, easier said than done. This may be the case in is moment for you, yet as you become more aware of yourself, it will get easier.
Where most people get stuck is breaking the pattern, confronting what we have always done. On the most part, so much is done on the subconscious level we don’t even realize what we are doing. Hence we speak, act and think from an unaware state. So when you hear the term AWARENESS in the spiritual, new age or some religious circles, it generally refers to opening your eyes to see the bigger picture. Seeing past what you have been molded into, the limiting thoughts, so you can make empowered choices about how you exist in this human form and where you fit beyond it.
So when we stop resisting and fighting What Is, we enable ourselves to change our frequency, our personal radio wave to a new level where we can allow something more uplifting to enter. While we stay resisting the What Is right now, we actually keep ourselves in a state of suffering longer. Check in, what is your dial tuned into right now? If it’s not empowering to you, please adjust it.
For a long time I understood this concept, however it has taken years, lifetimes of “unlearning” and “relearning” to practice it to a point where now it is becoming a natural state of being for me. A good habit to embrace.
Life is a contrast, its very design is to support our evolution. So doesn’t it make sense change will take place. Whether we consciously want it to or not, it’s a given!! We are constantly in a state of change, so we have to find tools to support us along the way. I have found “Accepting What Is” to be one of many useful tools for me. Maybe you will too.
